Powdered Sugar Donut Holes Ingredients
You need just 8 ingredients and less than 30 minutes to bake up a fluffy, moist, incredibly tasty batch of vegan powdered sugar donut holes! Here's the list of everything you need:
- Milk: To make vegan donut holes, use a dairy free milk like almond or oat milk. If you are not vegan or dairy-free, feel free to use regular milk.
- Sugar: We use regular or organic cane sugar to make these baked powdered sugar donut holes perfectly sweet.
- Butter: If you'd like to keep these powdered sugar donut holes vegan, you'll need to use a plant-based butter, if not, any butter will work.
- Baking Essentials: To ensure these donut holes bake properly with plenty of fluff, you'll need baking powder and baking soda.
- Vanilla: For delicious donut flavor!
- Flour: For that perfect donut hole tenderness, use all-purpose flour. If gluten-free, I recommend King Arthur Measure for Measure gluten-free flour. Please don't substitute any other flour such as almond flour, baking flour, etc.
- Powdered Sugar: Confectioners’ sugar coats these homemade donuts and makes them irresistible.

How To Make Powdered Sugar Donut Holes
Mix the Donut Hole Ingredients: In a medium mixing bowl, mix the oat or almond milk, sugar, melted vegan butter, baking powder, baking soda, and vanilla extract. Then, stir in the flour, be careful not to over mix the batter.
Transfer the Donut Batter into the Pan: Spoon the batter into 60 mini donut hole or cake pop molds. I prefer silicone. If you don't have a donut hole mold, you can use mini muffin molds. This recipe makes 16 full sized donuts or muffins too.
Bake The Donut Holes: Place in oven and bake for 20-25 minutes until the donut holes are golden on top.
Coat Them in Powdered Sugar: Allow the baked donuts to cool and then toss them in powdered sugar! Enjoy.
Homemade Powdered Sugar Donut Hole Recipe Tips
These baked donut holes are simple to make, but here are a few tips to make sure they are perfect every time!
- Follow the Recipe: The best way to ensure the success of these donut holes is to follow the recipe and use the exact ingredients as written.
- Do not Over-Mix the Batter: If you stir the batter too much you’ll end up with pastries that are more dense and gummy instead of fluffy and soft.
- Use Fresh Baking Powder & Baking Soda: If your baking powder is older than 6 months, I suggest grabbing a new one for best baking results.
- Donut Pan: I like to use a silicone cake pop mold for this recipe. If you don't have a cake pop mold or donut hole pan, use a mini muffin pan that has been sprayed with nonstick cooking spray.

Hi Jilly,
Can I substitute applesauce for vegan butter? Do you have any other suggestions for a substitute for the vegan butter? Can’t wait to try that. Thank you so much for everything.
Chris.
Jillian Glenn says
Hi there! Coconut oil, avocado oil, or olive oil works great as a substitute for the vegan butter. I haven't tried applesauce but imagine it would be good but maybe a little dry?
Lucie says
Hi, do you think almond flour would work for these ?
Thank you ?
Jillian Glenn says
Hi there! Almond flour isn't a 1-1 substitute for regular or gluten free all purpose flour. I recommend using the flour the recipe suggests for best results!
Jenn says
Hi’ silly question - unsalted or salted butter ?
Thanks !
Jillian Glenn says
I've used both, but I prefer salted! No silly questions 🙂
Shivani says
I don’t have a mini muffin pan or a donut whole pan. Do you think you could just roll them into balls by hand and bake on a lined baking tray?
Jillian says
The batter is wet and not thick enough for you to be able to roll by hand. Do you have a full sized muffin pan?
Mare says
Hi Jillian,
I am trying to understand your flour comment within the recipe. Are you saying not to use the Bobs Red Mill 1:1 GF Baking Flour?
Jillian says
That's correct. It is a baking flour and not an all purpose flour.
Allie says
What do you think about air frying these? Not sure how to go about it exactly but I think it’s be delicious!
